We pride ourselves on using only the finest produce in our kitchen here at the Cruel Sea, making the most of the local, sustainable, quality produce which is abundant here in Dorset!
Owner and fisherman Peter Miles ventures out on his boat regularly to catch fresh fish for our menu, as well as other local fishermen. Our menu is ever changing as we are so committed to only using the freshest produce.
Whilst we are best known for our fish and seafood, we also use local game, meat, poultry and vegetables ensuring our menu is well balanced and offers plenty of choice for all - a significant number of our dishes are also Gluten Free!
Head chef Chris is passionate about food, and this is reflected in the wholesome, tasty dishes he produces.

The restaurant’s name comes from the British film The Cruel Sea, 1953. Directed by Charles Frend and produced by Leslie Norman this is a classic World War II adventure about a British convoy escort ship and its officers.
Based on the best selling novel The Cruel Sea by Nicholas Monsarrat. It is a portrayal of the war between the Royal Navy and Germany's U-boats from the viewpoint of the British naval officers and seamen who served in escort vessels during World War II.
